Overview
On April 10, 2024, University of California President Michael V. Drake, announced his selection of Richard K. Lyons as the next chancellor of UC Berkeley. The UC Board of Regents approved the appointment during a special meeting. The appointment follows an extensive national search that engaged various campus stakeholders, including representatives of students, faculty, staff, alumni and Regents. Rich will assume his new role on July 1, 2024
Chancellor Carol T. Christ announced her plans to retire at the end of June 2024.
Input Welcome
All members of the UC Berkeley community and other members of the public were invited to share their suggestions, feedback, and comments regarding the next Chancellor through early December. Members of the UC Berkeley Community also had the opportunity to engage in October town halls. The UC Berkeley Chancellor Search Advisory Committee thanks and appreciates all the input received. Search Advisory Committee
The search advisory committee was involved in recruiting, screening, and conducting interviews with candidates. The committee participated in listening sessions and town halls with the UC Berkeley community to gain a broad understanding of the needs and requirements for the next Chancellor. Through the search process, they recommended a pool of candidates for the UC President to select from for final interviews.
