Laura Baxter-Simons

Laura Baxter-Simons is general counsel and chief compliance officer at Meritage Group LP, an investment management firm she co-founded with spouse, former BOV member Nat Simons (B.A. ’89, Economics; M.A. ’95, Mathematics). The couple are co-founders of Prelude Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on innovations in clean energy and the reduction of global CO2. Prelude is a member of the Breakthrough Energy Coalition, a group of investors, corporations, and financial institutions who are dedicating their wealth to emerging energy technologies. The Breakthrough Energy Coalition includes Marc Benioff, Jeff Bezos, Richard Branson, John Doerr, Vinod Khosla, Priscilla Chan, Mark Zuckerberg, and others. Baxter-Simons was formerly general counsel at Monterey Management Group LP and associate counsel at Renaissance Technologies LLC. She is the daughter of retired California Supreme Court justice Marvin Baxter. Along with her Berkeley degrees, Baxter-Simons holds a J.D. from Stanford Law School.
