Bio/CV: 

Benjamin E. Hermalin is the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost at UC Berkeley, where he also holds professorships in the Department of Economics and at Berkeley Haas as the Thomas & Alison Schneider Distinguished Professor of Finance. With decades of experience in academic leadership and research, Benjamin brings extensive expertise in corporate governance, organizational leadership, industrial organization, and law and economics.

Previously, he served as Vice Provost for the Faculty, Chair of the Academic Senate, Chair of the Department of Economics, Interim Dean and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Berkeley Haas, and a member of the campus Budget Committee. His service has spanned key academic leadership roles that shaped appointments, tenure reviews, and institutional strategy.

Benjamin holds a PhD in Economics from MIT and joined the UC Berkeley faculty in 1988. A recipient of the Schwabacher Award and the Earl F. Cheit Outstanding Teaching Award, he has also contributed to the field as a former co-editor of the RAND Journal of Economics.
