Cal Football Strength and Conditioning Program Review

In November 2016, UC Berkeley launched an independent review of Cal Football’s strength and conditioning program. Then-Chancellor Nicholas Dirks commissioned this evaluation to ensure that Berkeley's strength and conditioning program would go beyond contemporary intercollegiate standards to become a national leader when it comes to maximizing the health and safety of student athletes.

The review was led by Elizabeth Joy, MD, MPH, a former collegiate student-athlete and the current President of the American College of Sports Medicine; and the Hon. Wayne D. Brazil (Ret.), a former Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California as well as a former faculty member at Berkeley Law. The review was conducted from the fall 2016 through the spring of 2018.
