Back-To-School press briefing

More than 60 alumni and friends attended a London reception with Chancellor Nicholas Dirks and his wife Professor Janaki Bakhle on Thursday, June 27 at Two Temple place, London.

Dirks has met several times with Berkeley Assemblymember Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) to discuss budgetary and legislative matters that are crucial to UC Berkeley s students, staff and faculty. Skinner, a Cal alumnus, was recently appointed Chair of the Assembly Budget Committee.

Alumni gathered at the Carleton Hotel in Tel Aviv to welcome Chancellor Nicholas Dirks and his wife Professor Janaki Bakhle on June 29.  Maya Yizhaky, a Berkeley alumna is pictured with the Chancellor.

Assemblymember Joan Buchanan (D-San Ramon), Chair of the Assembly Education Committee, welcomed the Chancellor to her Sacramento office to discuss the need for student access to an affordable, high-quality public education, a view she shares with Dirks and Berkeley students.

Chancellor Nick Dirks enjoys shrimp tostadas at Crossroads dining commons alongside students.

Chancellor Dirks met with congresswoman Jackie Speier on the importance of the federal governments role in supporting UC Berkeley's mission of teaching, research and public service.  

The Berkeley Club of France welcomed new Chancellor Nicholas Dirks and his wife, Professor Janaki Bakhle. The event was held on Monday, June 24 at Salons France Ameriques in Paris with more than 60 guests attending the event including Chancellor Emeritus Birgeneau and Mrs. Birgeneau, as well as Berkeley Club of Korea President Dr. Ken Lee and Berkeley Club of Hong Kong Vice President Lisa Lum. Thanks to our volunteers Nicolas Tollet and Bertrand Jeanpierre. 

Chancellor Dirks met recently in Sacramento with Assemblymember Roger Dickinson (D-Sacramento), a Berkeley alumnus. Dickinson is not only an avid fan and supporter of Cal Athletics, but also is a champion of public higher education causes in the Capitol.
