On July 1, 2020, the Building Name Review Committee received a proposal to remove the name of LeConte from the Department of Physics buildings.
During the summer and fall of 2020, the committee reached out to the Berkeley community for input on the proposal. The committee reviewed this feedback and submitted its recommendation to the chancellor during September 2020.
After approval by the chancellor and UC president, the outcome of this consultative process was announced on November 18, 2020.
